Sora tossed and turned in his sleep, the sheets half covering his body, his leg hanging off the edge and an arm wedged between the bed and the wall.
He was dreaming, a bad dream perhaps, he was mumbling something...
"Riku..."
He was mumbling Riku... Why Riku? Why was he dreaming about Riku?

Sora was standing in a pitch-black room with nothing but a stained glass floor beneath him. On it were pictures of people he'd never known, places he'd never been.
"Where am I?" he said, looking around for some sign of life.  "Why am I here?"
A voice spoke to him, but this voice had no sound, no language.  "Are you ready?"
Sora was startled to hear someone speak.  He wasn't even sure he'd heard it and looked around frantically to see who had spoke. "Who are you... where are you?"
"One who knows nothing can understand nothing. You must experience before you are ready, you cannot fight the darkness on your own."
"Darkness?" he asked, he had stopped looking and was just content staring blankly into the void.
"Someone close to you will be taken by the darkness, his heart will be stolen and nothing will be left but an empty shell."
"What?" Sora blurted, he turned and focused on a point nowhere in the air.  "Who?"
"Riku is not strong, he will be taken unless you can strengthen his heart, you are the only one that can protect him."
"Protect him... how?" he turned again, getting worked up "How do I save his heart!?"
The voice did not answer. Sora's shadow stretched underneath him and he watched as it spread across the ground. The tip of what looked like a head appeared as his shadow began to fade. There, standing in front of him was an exact duplicate of himself, black as night with piercing yellow eyes. He wasn't sure what to do, this doppelganger instilled in him such dread, such fear he was almost ready to cry.
"The shell," the voice said, "is what left when the heart is gone; a heartless creature of pure sorrow."
Sora's fear began to fade as his shadow transformed.  It grew taller, its hair changed, its clothes. Before he had realised it, Riku was standing in front of him in full colour.
He held out his hand to Sora, smiling softly.  "Come on Sora"
Sora gaped at Riku for a second then reached out with his hand, just as their fingertips touched Riku exploded in a wave of black smoke, leaving a shadow behind with the same piercing yellow eyes. It's eyes faded, turning black, its body began to disappear and before Sora could do anything it had gone entirely, leaving nothing more than a layer of dark mist on the ground.

Sora woke suddenly, and sat bolt upright "Riku!!" he shouted.

Sora sat on the beach as Kairi was collecting things for the raft.  "Come on you lazy bum," she said, nudging him with her foot.  "Whatcha moping about?"
"I had a bad dream..." Sora murmered. "I don't wanna talk about it."
Kairi was a little concerned but wasn't the sort of person to pry into other peoples business "...Okay, maybe you can help with the raft when you're feeling better?"
Sora nodded solemnly and Kairi walked off with a block of wood in her hands. He glanced toward the small island just offshore where Riku and Tidus were practicing their fighting moves. He couldn't hear what they were saying, but he saw Tidus trip and Riku burst out laughing.
"How could he lose his heart? He's so strong... but he's alone."  Sora looked down to the sand in front of him and scooped up a handful, it poured off the sides of his hand and through his fingers into a small pile on the beach. He put his hands behind his head and laid back on the sand, staring into the cloudless blue sky.
After a few minutes Riku appeared over him, Sora didn't realise he was staring straight at him until he spoke.
"Sora? Are you alright?"
"What?" Sora suddenly focused on Riku's face, realising it was him he quickly sat up and spun around.  "Oh uh... yeah, I'm alright, just thinking."
"About what?" Riku said as he leant one hand on the sand and sat down.
He stayed silent for a sec, "I'm worried."
"Why?" Riku asked.  Sora had been his friend for years and he'd never seen him like this.
"I had this dream... that you... lost your heart."  He raised his head and looked at Riku.
Riku laughed and pulled up his hand "My heart's right here Sora, it's not going anywhere."  He tapped his chest and leant back onto the sand.
"I know, but what if it gets stolen? What if it's not strong enough to stand against the darkness?"
"Darkness?  What are you talking about Sora? You're starting the scare me."  He frowned at Sora, not in anger, but trying to understand him.
"I just... don't know what I'd do if you lost your heart. Don't know what I'd if I lost you."  He lowered his head and traced some strange shape in the sand.
"Sora."  Riku got up and walked over to him then squatted down in front of him and put his hand on Sora's head. Sora looked up into his eyes. "I'm not going anywhere and I'm not gonna lose my heart."
Their eyes were locked onto each other for a few seconds when suddenly Sora leant forward and kissed Riku on the lips. Riku's eyes almost popped out as he jerked back and fell over.  He just stared in awe at Sora, not sure what to say.
Sora hung his head and softly said: "Sorry..."  He got up and turned around.  "I'm gonna... help Kairi with the raft..."  He walked slowly along the beach and disappeared around under the bridge.
Riku was staring out into the sea, his eyes still wide. His jaw fell open slightly. He had never been kissed before, by anyone. All these thoughts were rushing through his head, all of them contradicting all the others. All he could think do to was say quietly: "Sora..."

Sora gave Kairi a hand with loading the last of the supplies onto the raft.
"We should be ready to go by tomorrow!" she said cheerfully, smiling at Sora.
He didn't smile back but kept the same emotionless expression on his face.
"You still worried about that dream?" Kairi asked.
"No it's... it's not that, it's something else. I don't wanna talk about it."
Kairi gave off a little "hmph" and put her hand on her hip, looking at Sora.  "You should really do something before you get all depressed. Sora, are you listening?"
"Sorry Kairi, I'm just tired, I think I might go home."  He turned and walked toward the cave that lead back to the beach.  "I'll see you tomorrow."
"Strange boy," Kairi said to herself and packed up her things.

Sora wandered across the beach, his arms drooping by his sides, his head hung down. He looked up and around, seeing the beach was completely empty; Riku had probably ran off. He made his way to the dock where his boat was when Riku appeared behind him "Sora," he said, trying to get his attention.
Sora didn't turn around, he just said: "What?"
"We should talk," Riku said calmly.
"About what? I've already made a fool of myself... I feel so stupid."
"You shouldn't," Riku said reassuringly but calmly.
Sora turned slowly and looked at Riku, confused.
He tilted his head at Sora, leaning a bit to see him better.  "You shouldn't feel stupid, I know why you did it."
"You do?" Sora asked.  He didn't even know why he did it himself.
Riku nodded.  "It's because you don't want to lose me."  He stepped forward and put his hand on Sora's shoulder and his other on his arm, he leant close and touched his lips to Sora's. His lips were soft and small, while Riku's were larger and stronger, but so gentle.
He wasn't sure why Riku had done it, but he knew he liked it. He turned and put his arm around Riku's back, pressing his lips tighter. After a few seconds they stopped and stood with their eyes closed, inches from each other.
Riku opened his eyes.  "How was that?"
Sora opened his.  "That was... amazing."  He giggled and smiled and kissed Riku again, over and over. They paused for a second and Riku moved his tongue forward, touching Sora's mouth, Sora did the same and before long they were kissing and wrestling with their mouths, feeling every part of the other's.
"I don't ever want you to leave," Sora whispered into Riku's ear.
Riku kissed him on the neck and whispered back: "I'm never going to leave, the darkness can't take my heart, you already have it."

"Sora!" Riku yelled, the sky was filled with darkness and it had been hours since he'd seen him. Something was tearing the island apart, Kairi was missing too but he hadn't seen her all day, she was probably long gone.  "Sora! Where are you!"
"Riku!" Sora cried from the beach. Riku turned and saw him.  He leapt off the bridge and sprinted toward him. "I thought you'd been taken by the vortex," he said, pointing upward and behind him. In the sky was a sphere of pure darkness, a glowing purple core and dark winds spinning around it. Small, loose objects were being succed up, sand was slowly draining upward and the ocean had gone entirely.
"What is that!" he called above the roar of the wind, his hair blowing everywhere. The bridge suddenly gave way and flew spinning into the vortex, disappearing without a trace.
"I don't know."  Riku turned to Sora, reaching to him. "But I..." Suddenly he was ripped up by the wind and flew across the beach.
Sora was in shock for a second then sprinted after him.  "I won't let you take him!" he yelled angrily. He had trouble running across the loose sand but he was determined to get to Riku.
"Sora, let me go, save yourself!" Riku called as he was swept into the air, out of reach.
"NO! I can't! I won't! I love you!" he screamed at the top of his voice. Suddenly there was a flash of lightning and the vortex puslated, having some kind of spasm. Riku fell from the sky and landed in the sand. Sora dropped down beside him, holding him in his arms "Never..."
The vortex flashed again, sending bolts of purple lightning to all corners of the island, obliterating palm trees and evaporating rock.
Sora and Riku floated slowly off the ground, the vortex taking a hold on them both.
"If we go, we go together," Sora said, a tear in his eye.
"I love you too," Riku said, feeling weak from the fall. Sora held him close, covering him from the darkness and they floated into the vortex. Time slowed as they were drawn inside, all they could see was blurred and fuzzy, moving backward and forward as if it wasn't sure which way time was supposed to go.

They could both hear the same voice that Sora had heard in his dream, no speech, but they definitely heard it.  "One heart alone cannot stand against the darkness, but two joined as one is more powerful than any shadow could ever be."  The voice echoed and faded as they fell into darkness. All light, all feeling gone.
The only thing left was their hearts...
Another go at a yaoi story (guys) I decided to do this more about the connection they'd have rather than the sex... I'm not good at letting go of my politeness and saying things so this is a little easier.
I intend to do a whole series of yaoi stories based on different games, shows and whatnot
This is kingdom hearts and features a pairing between Sora and Riku
